This week DNPric.es decided to compare three pretty equal new gTLDs and see how they do in terms of various key performing indicators. The peek was .EXPERT, .GURU, and .NINJA.
They were delegated around the same time a year and a half ago. About half of all registrations in each zone originate from the United States. All three are operated by strong registries and all of them are relatively short, comparing to the rest of new extensions.
As DNPric.es wanted to make a small competition out of it and instead of boring you with detailed analysis lets you see the action in the concise table:
.EXPERT | .GURU | .NINJA | |
Delegated | 2014-01-23 | 2013-11-06 | 2013-12-19 |
Go live (general availability) | 2014-05-14 | 2014-02-05 | 2014-05-28 |
TLD length | 6 | 4 | 5 |
Cheapest fee today | $37.99 | $19.99 | $4.99 |
Registry | Donuts | Donuts | Rightside |
Number of registered domains | 26,444 NS | 65,241 NS | 50,667 NS |
Paged indexed by Google | 572,000 G | 926,000 G | 1,280,000 G |
After market sales | 6 $ | 47 $ | 9 $ |
The exhibit highlights the strongest player in each niche in bold. As one can clearly see .GURU scores the most boxes, so we can easily declare it the winner of today’s race.
The bottom line to draw, perhaps, is that there is a strong correlation here:
the shorter the name, the better it is [used].

Google search for each string returns these number of results:
* 857,000,000 [https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=expert]
* 189,000,000 [https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=guru]
* 179,000,000 [https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=ninja]
This should give .EXPERT good chances to do better in the longer run. However the registry may need to reduce the annual lease price.
As many have suggested on forums, it is also worth comparing these numbers to .PRO, especially now, that restrictions are dropped.
